The Old Brick Tavern Bed & Breakfast and Antique Shop - Townshend

Built in 1792, the building now known as the Old Brick Tavern B&B is one of the oldest in Townshend village. It is said to have served as a tavern, dance hall, antique shop and the residence of a silent movie actress. The B&B offers two beautiful guest rooms with luxurious baths and room amenities include air conditioning, cable TV, and velour robes and slippers.

The common areas are welcoming and designed for guests' enjoyment and relaxation. The TV lounge is furnished with a comfortable sofa and chairs, numerous antiques and a 52″ HDTV with a large selection of movies. 

Included is a delicious breakfast served each morning in the dining room from tables set with antique china, beautiful crystal, and linen tablecloths. Dinner options are also available at the B&B.

The Boardman House Bed & Breakfast - Townshend

Built in the Greek Revival architectural style, this 1840 farm house turned bed and breakfast sits next to the most photographed church in Vermont! This B&B features 5 rooms and 1 suite, all with private modern baths and several of which overlook the historic village green. Guest rooms are uncluttered and are furnished in the Shaker style with bursts of color on the duvet covers and paintings.

A well maintained barn on the property houses a sauna on the lower level.

Breakfasts are gourmet and might offer individual soufflés, homemade muffins, or baked pear pancakes.

The Old Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast - Townshend

This cozy 1790 farmhouse sits on 15 acres just outside of Townshend and offers guests  three spacious bedrooms with queen size beds and private baths. Each bedroom has old American charm with beautiful wide board pumpkin pine floors, original artwork, and hand made quilts.

There is a solarium where you can watch the numerous varieties of birds and wild turkeys feeding at the bird sanctuary. Also in the solarium is a reading nook, television, and piano for your enjoyment.

A hearty country breakfast is served with a choice of fresh fruits, home made cakes and muffins, a variety of egg dishes, pancakes, bacon & sausages and French toast.

On a quiet back road just minutes from the entrance of the Townshend State Park, this 200 year old farm house is nestled on the West River and offers serene views of the river valley and distant mountain tops. Still a working farm, the Redwing Farm B&B offers three rooms (one with private bath) that are spacious, bright, and have a warm cozy feel.

The Sugar House - Newfane

This 1796 post and beam cottage was originally built for maple sugaring and was converted to a charming guest house in the 1970's. Built without any nails, the hand hewn wood beams give the cottage a warm cozy feeling.

The cottage has a full kitchen, sitting area with fireplace, a loft that sleeps two additional people and a private patio. The kitchen is stocked with coffee, tea, water, juice and milk. A cheese and fruit platter will greet you upon arrival and in the morning, freshly baked muffins are delivered to your door with the newspaper. Other amenities include air conditioning and satellite TV.

Four Columns Inn - Newfane

The Four Columns Inn is a legendary 15 room country inn built in the elegant Federal style. Newfane Woods Guest Suite - Newfane

Located on the ground level of the owners' log home, this tourist accommodation, with its private entrance, offers a comfortable home-like atmosphere for 2 persons only. The River Bend Lodge - Newfane

The River Bend Lodge, located on the banks of the West River 2.5 miles north of Newfane village, offers twenty recently redecorated standard rooms. For breakfast, coffee and doughnuts are served in the lobby. Amenities include a popular full service restaurant , The River Bend Grille (not open for breakfast), a golf driving range, indoor game room and close proximity to the Townshend State Park entrance.

Camping Options

Townshend State Park

The campground, situated in a wooded area, has 30 tent / trailer sites. There are two bathrooms, one of which has showers ($). A picnic shelter with a fireplace and three tables is attached to the ranger's quarters. Visitors can take a hike up the Bald Mountain Trail, passing various chutes, waterfalls and pools on the way to spectacular vistas to the north, south and east. Those seeking a less strenuous experience can relax in the campground or picnic area and enjoy the tranquility of this natural area.

Open: Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. 2-night minimum stay required.

West River Camperama

Located on the banks of the West River between Newfane and Townshend, this full-service campground offers a number of amenities, as well as easy access to Townshend State Park. 170 campsites, all with water. On-site camp store.

Kenolie Village offers 9 primitive tent sites in a beautiful, wooded setting just a short distance from the village of Newfane. River swimming, rafting, canoeing, and fishing are within walking distance. On-site camp store.
